Creamy Apple Crisp: The Ultimate Fall Treat

This classic apple crisp is a warm and comforting dessert featuring tender, cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery, crunchy oat crumble. It’s easy to make, requires simple pantry ingredients, and pairs perfectly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. A must-try fall favorite!

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch (or similar-sized) baking dish.

  2. Prepare the apple filling: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until well coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.

  3. Make the crisp topping: In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture becomes crumbly.

  4. Assemble and bake: Evenly sprinkle the crisp topping over the apples. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

  5. Cool and serve: Let the apple crisp cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Best apples to use: Granny Smith for tartness, Honeycrisp for sweetness, or a mix for balanced flavor.

  • Make it ahead: Assemble and refrigerate unbaked for up to 24 hours; bake when ready.

  • Storage: Keep leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for a crisp topping.

  • Variations: Add chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) to the topping for extra crunch.
